Essential & Desirable Criteria for the Role

Important Note: Details on the role can be found on the Job Description which is at the end

of this document. These criteria are part of the assessment criteria and will influence the

decision on whether your application will proceed to the next stage.

Essential 1. You must undergo and pass as security & police check. If you are found

successful, you will be requested to provide a Clean Criminal Record and a

Sex Offenders Certificate issued by the Republic of Cyprus.

  1. Experience with the manufacture of sheet metal components by cutting, drilling, bending, shrinking, stretching, rolling, hollowing and raising using hand and power operated forming techniques.
  1. Experience to undertake the fusion welding of ferrous and non-ferrous metals using the following processes: Oxy acetylene, Manual Metal Arc (MMA), Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG), Metal Inert Gas (MIG), Resistance spot welding.
  1. Demonstrable ability to read, understand, and work from engineering drawings, sketches, and specifications.
  1. Certificates or diplomas in Engineering Fabrication or Welding.
  1. A good knowledge of office-based IT is needed, including Microsoft Office

packages (Word, Excel, Outlook) and electronic filing practices.

  1. The ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing is an

essential part of this role.

  1. If you are found successful on this campaign, we will be requesting

references, therefore, ensure to have completed this information on your

  1. Be prepared to self-drive an MT vehicle (and prepared to maintain or obtain

FMT600) to attend meetings across WSBA and ESBA or occasionally in the

Republic of Cyprus.

  1. Medical checks will be required prior to starting date.

Desirable 1. CSWIP 3 Welding Inspection.

  1. Machining or Milling experience.

The official language of the Sovereign Base Areas is English and consequently English is

the official language of British Forces Cyprus. All documents are to be completed in this

Brief Description of Role

The A&G Welder Fabricator is responsible for carrying out a wide range of welding, metal fabrication, and repair activities in support of station engineering and production requirements. The role involves working safely and competently across welding and fabrication bays, ensuring all work complies with Health & Safety regulations, trade standards, and approved engineering documentation.

The post holder will be expected to manufacture, repair, and modify ferrous and non‑ferrous metal components using a variety of welding, cutting, forming, and assembly techniques. They must interpret engineering drawings accurately, operate workshop machinery and specialist equipment, maintain tools correctly, and ensure all job documentation is updated. The role also requires proactive reporting of equipment defects, material shortages, and production issues to supervisory staff.

Responsible to FAT1 & SNCO

Priorities (list in order)

  • Ensure all welding and fabrication activities are carried out safely, in full compliance with Health & Safety legislation, station regulations, permits, and risk assessments.
  • Correctly use PPE, safety equipment, and safe systems of work at all times.
  • Carry out welding, fabrication, repair, and modification of metal components to the required specification, quality, and time standards.
  • Work on both ferrous and non‑ferrous materials using approved welding and fabrication techniques.
  • To hold and maintain welding currency requirements for Non-critical welds.
  • Accurately read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and job instructions to ensure work is completed correctly first time.
  • Identify and raise any discrepancies or technical issues with supervisors or engineering staff.
  • Carry out self-checks prior to presenting tasks for quality inspections as required.
  • Ensure all completed work meets trade QA standards and full compliance to tool control policy.
  • Operate, maintain, and care for welding plant, fabrication equipment, hand tools, and workshop machinery.
  • Report defects, calibration issues, or equipment faults promptly.
  • Accurately complete job cards, maintenance records, and any associated documentation.
  • Report progress, issues, material shortages, and delays to supervisory staff in a timely manner.
  • Work cooperatively with other trades, supervisors, and engineering teams to support station priorities.
  • Provide technical input and practical support during maintenance tasks, breakdowns, or urgent repairs.
  • Maintain trade skills, qualifications, and awareness of updated procedures or techniques.
  • Demonstrate a professional attitude, flexible approach to duties, and commitment to continuous improvement.
