Mobile contracts — key checks
Look at:
- your real data use
- 5G/eSIM
- contract length & early-exit fees
- SIM/activation fees and
- the effective monthly cost (promos + setup divided across the full term).
Roaming is not the same as international calls
International minutes to other countries is not the same as roaming while you’re abroad. Check both allowances. See the EU roaming rules for fair-use caps.
Unlimited plans can slow after a threshold
Many “unlimited” plans reduce speed after high usage. Look for any fair-use note that mentions throttling or traffic management.
Out-of-bundle rounding
A few carriers bill data in 1 MB increments or have steep per-MB rates when you go over. Set a data cap/alert to avoid bill shock.
eSIM catches
Some carriers charge for eSIM re-issue or limit how many times you can switch devices. If you change phones often, check eSIM replacement fees and whether multiple eSIM profiles are allowed.
Porting your number
Number porting is supported. If you’re moving from prepaid to contract, confirm any SIM/activation fees and the porting timeline.
